VERIO - Project Management and System Development Methodology Objective: Verio, Inc was entering a period of rapid growth. The organization scheduled several enterprise-wide system projects to occur over the company's fiscal year. Improvements in efficiency and effectiveness in the management of projects had a direct impact on the organization's profitability. The company was concerned that the level of effort required for projects was too high, and that projects could be done more efficiently. There were also concerns about the effectiveness of efforts being applied to achieve the best results. The organization was in need of a standard methodology for the management of information technology initiatives. Solutions: CMM Consulting Incorporated worked with Verio's technology teams, end-users and executive management to develop a project management methodology customized to Verio's needs. During the development of the methodology, CMM conducted an assessment of the technology environment through interviews and auditing of existing development and project management practices at Verio. Sources from national project management professional organizations were referenced to assure that a project management methodology was scaleable and would meet the best practices found within the industry. Results: The high involvement of the project groups generated a high level of "buy-in" for the methodology. The project management methodology was implemented throughout all Verio's technology and project teams. Due to the methodology's ease of use and the success of the program, Verio's Executive Management adopted the methodology for all projects throughout the organization. |
